The CETEST instrumented wheelset is a detection system for making uncoupled measurements of the contact forces between the wheel and the rail. Our patented system allows performing the dynamic performance tests according to US CFR 49, as well as EN 14363 (the complete method), UIC 518, etc.

This special instrumentation may be used, not only to certify new vehicles in accordance with the above standards, but also to optimise maintenance and enhance safety thanks to advanced track measurements and research into wheel/rail contact issues.

Our instrumented wheelsets are based on strain gauge instrumentation; hence contact forces can be obtained through direct measurement of the stresses experienced by the wheel without any influence from the wheel/rail contact point position. Contact forces values can be real time processed by using CETEST Data Processing Module (DPM), based on embedded hardware technologies. The real-time data obtained includes vertical, lateral and longitudinal loads as well as the wheel/rail contact point position.

Furthermore, we offer mounting solution customisation, as part of an effort to attain the most efficient solution in terms of technical viability, reliability and cost. We can instrument wheelsets with any kind of wheel and axle configuration and geometry, even with axle-mounted disc/tread brakes.

We provide wheelset communication solutions, wireless telemetry with optical or inductive transmission, which can be fully adapted to the particular conditions of our clients’ needs.

Our calibration bench, which adapts to any track gauge, simulates static and rolling conditions, achieving a sensor capable to take highly accurate measurements.

CETEST solutions have been proven under special environmental conditions, such as ice, sand and extreme temperatures, as well as at high speeds. Tried and tested in all market segments (metros, locomotives, high speed trains, special maintenance vehicles, active tilting technologies, variable gauge, etc.) and across the entire globe.

We have delivered more than 100 instrumented wheelsets in the last 5 years!
