Gearbox characterization
Problem
The customer wanted to optimise gear unit maintenance intervals. CETEST was in charge of the investigation to elucidate any parameters that could indicate when maintenance operations should be performed.
Instrumentation/ measurement
Based on acceleration measurements. RMS values were monitored and evaluated at several points of the gear units and under different operational conditions.
Results
CETEST observed significant differences in the vibration levels and natural frequencies depending on each gearboxes’ wear and kilometres of operation. A pattern was established in order to determine the most suitable moment for maintenance based on gearbox condition.
Actions
A new maintenance programme based on condition was designed and developed.
