EMC troubleshooting

Case Study: EMC troubleshooting
Problem
The vehicle did not comply with the limits established in standard EN50121 regarding radiated emissions.
Aim
CETEST designed a battery of tests to detect the root cause of the non-compliance. Radiated emissions were measured under different conditions and vehicle configurations.
Instrumentation/ measurement
Ferrite cores, common mode capacitors, shielding solutions. Magnetic and electric field antennas and spectrum analyzer were used to record and evaluate the radiated emissions.
Results
One of the earthing connectors was not shielded and connected properly and this actually caused electromagnetic leakage. The problem was corrected and the vehicle met the standard successfully.
