Air filter efficiency and locomotive thermal characterization

Problem
Our client had a locomotive project for operation under extreme ambient conditions (very high temperatures and large amounts of dust and sand). The client requested CETEST to design a test to assure the air filter efficiency and to reproduce, as accurate as possible, the locomotive working under operational service conditions.
Test proposal
A 1:1 mock-up was designed including all the equipment to be mounted. Extensive testing was performed measuring temperatures and air flow under a lot of different operating conditions.

A specific test was designed to test the efficiency of the air filter spraying dust and sand under controlled conditions.

Result
The test campaign provided valuable information for final design before prototype manufacturing.
