Modal analysis with on-track excitation

Test description
One of the wheels is subjected to a known level of vertical and lateral excitation. The vehicle response is monitored and evaluated.
Aim
To determine the vehicle suspension and rigid body vibration modes. This test can also be performed on an isolated bogie.

This special analysis may be used, for example, to compare frequency response functions (FRF) for different vehicle and suspension configurations. For instance, CETEST performed this test with and without dampers. They then evaluated the frequency range where the dampers had a greater impact and could therefore optimise the vehicle ride comfort.
