Characterization of noise transmission through doors

Case Study: Characterization of noise transmission through doors
Problem
Interior noise levels within the train were detected to be too high. Noise transmission through doors was observed to be excessively high at points where the doors were not fully soundproofed.
Aim
To analyse soundproofing on doors, define the most sensitive points and propose a design improvement.
Instrumentation/ measurement
Sound intensity probes with self-amplified speakers. White noise (0-10 kHz) measurements at different heights (door, track, etc.).
Case Study: Characterization of noise transmission through doors
Results
Door area sound levels analysis and acoustic map creation.
Actions
Absorbent material and acoustic barriers were added to the doors to reduce the level of noise transmitted to the interior of the vehicle.
